The York Castle Museum in the UK has learned that the Heritage Lottery Fund is giving it initial support for its plans for a Centenary Exhibition.

The York Museums Trust plans for a £2.4 million revamp of the Museum and a five-year WW1 exhibition called 'When The World Changed Forever'.

A Trust spokesman said it would be "one of the largest learning projects ever" and would create 500 volunteering opportunities. The York Castle Museum has received £73,000 to help further its plans and will apply for a full grant at a later date.
