International workshop in Buenos Aires, Argentina: 'La Gran Guerra en un contexto global'

An international workshop about 'The Great War and the Wider World' will take place at the Instituto de Historia Argentina y Americana "Dr. Emilio Ravignani" in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The “Dr. Emilio Ravignani” History Institute, CONICET University of Buenos Aires, will host an international workshop about the First World War in August 2013, working with University College Dublin’s Centre for War Studies.

The workshop will take place on the 23rd August 2013 in both English and Spanish, with simultaneous translations for each session.

The programme consists of:

Robert Gerwarth, (University College Dublin),  Empires and the First World War




Filipe Ribeiro de Meneses, (National University of Ireland, Maynooth), Portugal and the First World War: Immediate impact and long-term consequences


María Inés Tato, (CONICET University of Buenos Aires), An Overseas Trench: Reflections on the Mobilisation of Argentine Society during the Great War




Patricio Geli, (University of Buenos Aires/National University of February Third), Socialist Pacifism during the Maelstrom: The Argentine Socialist Party and the Great War


Emiliano Sánchez, (CONICET University of Buenos Aires), The German Invasion of Belgium and the Visual Arts in the Argentine Press: A Study of Pedro de Rojas’ illustrations in the newspaper Crítica




John Horne, (Trinity College Dublin), Thoughts on the Time Frames of the Great War


James Matthews, (University College Dublin Centre for War Studies/Complutense University of Madrid), Battling Bolshevik Bogeymen: Spain’s Cordon Sanitaire Against Revolution
